Flakk/Dalziel Arkitektur are based in Oslo, Norway and directed by co-founders Sofie Flakk Slinning and Matthew Dalziel. The studio is founded on its commitment to create beautiful and enduring work that responds to the challenges of our time.

Our design approach centres around notions of care and repair. Regardless of scale or budget we believe every project should be given the capacity to take on a life of its own. To be alive and loved is the only way that a building will be able to last. This notion of care is the basis of our approach in new construction as much as in the restoration and transformation of existing buildings. By engaging with the existing fabric of our built environment we continue to deepen our understanding of how to make new works that can inspire the care of future generations.

Matthew trained as a carpenter and worked as a furniture maker in Ontario, before moving to the UK to study architecture. Sofie grew up in Norway and studied in India before moving to Glasgow and then London for her degrees in Architecture.

The partners met while studying at London Metropolitan University and have gained experience in the offices of NORD architecture, Will Alsop, Haworth Tompkins and Henning Larsen, among others. In establishing Flakk/Dalziel they bring with them significant experience in a wide range of scales and sectors.

Matthew has taught post graduate studios at the Kingston School of Art, The London School of Architecture and The Oslo School of Architecture and Design. In 2019 Sofie joined Matthew at AHO to teach the Being Tectonic Studio course.
